Daily Proverbs for Windows - (Sample Version 1.2)

This file contains an OVERVIEW, INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, a BRIEF
TUTORIAL, and ORDERING INFORMATION.

**** OVERVIEW ****

The Bible's book of PROVERBS is a collection of moral adages designed to counsel about daily living. The objective of this program is to provide easy daily access to some of these ancient Proverbs as well as some modern secular adages. May the wisdom of these Proverbs guide you in your daily life. The PROVERBS program is designed to start automatically when Windows is first started. 

This is a demo version of Daily Proverbs.  


**** INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS  ****

1.  Copy the file PROVERBS.EXE to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (or any directory of your choice).

2.  The file VBRUN300.DLL must be installed in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (or whatever directory PROVERBS.EXE was placed). If you do not have this file, it can be downloaded from Compuserve. Many Forum Libraries contain this file.  Some include:

	Windows Fun Forum 
	Graphics Support Forum(Go Graphsup) - Help Library/vbrun3.zip 		USAIR ALPA - IBM Library #5
 	

3. Install the PROVERBS program in the STARTUP Program Group:

   a.  From PROGRAM MANAGER, open the STARTUP Program Group by double clicking on the STARTUP icon.

   b.  From the FILE menu, select NEW.

   c.  The "New Program Object Window" will appear:
	 select "PROGRAM ITEM" and then "OK" (or press "ENTER")

   d.  The "Program Item Properties Window" will appear: 
	 Enter the following information:

	Description 		"Daily Proverb"

	Command Line		"C:\Windows\system\proverbs.exe"
				   (or directory from STEP #1)
 
	Working Directory	(leave blank)

	Short Cut Key     	(leave blank)

      
      Now select "OK" (or press "ENTER")


4.  The PROVERBS icon should now be in the STARTUP Program Group window.

5.  Double click on the PROVERBS icon. The PROVERBS window will appear.  

6.  That's it.  GREAT JOB!  (Now that was not so hard.)  From now on, 
any time that Windows is started, Proverbs will activate on its own.



****   BRIEF TUTORIAL   ****

Placing the PROVERBS Icon in the StartUp Window causes the program to self-start when Windows is started.  If there are other programs being started by Windows at the same time, the Proverbs Window could be hidden from view.  Selection of the START UP DELAY option will cause a 15 second delay before the Proverbs window appears.  This will insure that PROVERBS 
is visible first.

The "PREVIOUS" and "NEXT" command buttons cycles through the available verses.

After contemplating the Proverb, select "EXIT".  The PROVERBS window will disappear until the next time Windows is started or until the next day if you leave your computer on. (See INTERVAL SELECTION for an alternative operation.) When the PROVERBS window reappears, the program will have advanced to the next verse. 

OPTIONS:

  BACKGROUND - Select 4 color options.

  ACTIVATION INTERVAL - Select an interval for PROVERBS to activate and    reappear on your screen.  Options available are 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours,
or next day.

  SHOW DATE/TIME - Selection of this option will cause the DATE and Time 
to be displayed in the PROVERBS window.

  SHOW VERSE COUNT - Selection of this option will cause a verse count 
to be displayed in the PROVERBS window.  This will enable the user to 
easily return to a favorite verse.  This sample version of PROVERBS has
10 verses available.

  START UP DELAY - Placing the PROVERBS Icon in the StartUp Window causes the program to self-start when Windows is started.  If there are other programs being started by Windows at the same time, the Proverbs Window could be hidden from view.  Selection of the START UP DELAY option will cause a 15 second delay before the Proverbs window appears.  This will 
insure that Proverbs is visible on the desktop. 


More Information:

*Selection of "EXIT" will cause the PROVERBS window to disappear until 
the selected ACTIVATION INTERVAL has passed.  There is no way for the 
user to see the PROVERBS window without restarting the program.  

There are two alternative methods to leave PROVERBS:

  1. MINIMIZE the window.  Now double clicking on the DAILY PROVERB icon will cause the PROVERBS window to reappear;

  2. Click anywhere outside of the PROVERBS window. This will place the PROVERBS window behind your other work.  Use the "SWITCH TO" feature of Windows to bring PROVERBS to the front.


*If you are going to work in DOS with Windows running, set INTERVAL to 
Daily or close PROVERBS to avoid possible loss of data when PROVERBS reactivates.
